  1. Question 9 from “Check Your Understanding” on page 525 of the textbook

      1. There are two cases. Because the number is even, it must end in 2 or 4. The first case occurs when the first digit is a 3 or 5—this means 2 or 4 could be the last digit. The second case happens when the first digit is a 2 or 4—this means there is only one possibility for the last digit since a 2 or 4 is already used as the first digit.
      2. The two cases would be the following: case one, where the arrangement begins with a B and there will be three choices for the vowel at the end; and case two, where the arrangement starts with an E and there are only two choices for the vowel at the end.
