Module 8: Lesson 1

Self-Check 2
  1. Answers will vary; a possible solution is given. When adding a new area code, a whole series of seven-digit numbers are created. Because repetitions are allowed, in theory there would be 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 = 10 000 000 new numbers. However, generally speaking, the first digit in a seven-digit number is not zero. Thus, there would be 9 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 × 10 = 9 000 000 more phone numbers.
