Module 5: Lesson 2

Self-Check 2
  1. “Your Turn” from “Example 3” on page 271 of the textbook
    1.  The graph of V equals 170 times the sine of 100 times pi times t is shown over two cycles. The domain is from 0 seconds to 0.04 seconds. The range is from –170 to 170. The two intersections at (0.02, 0) and (0.04, 0) are also shown.

The t-axis represents the time that it takes for the cycles to occur. Because the question asks for two cycles, the domain of the graph is {t|0 ≤ t ≤ 0.04, t ∈ R}. The range represents the volts at any given time. The range of the graph is {y|−170 ≤ y ≤ 170, y ∈ R}.
    2. The period is 0.02 s.
    3. The voltage will reach 110 V twice every 0.02 s (or every cycle). In 1 s, this means that there will be 50 cycles; therefore, the voltage will reach 110 V 100 times in 1 s.
