  1. Despite the fact that this is a word problem, the steps are not very different from those that were done in question 5. As in the previous questions, there are multiple methods to arrive at the same answer, depending on which factor is used in the initial step. One possible solution is shown here.

    The integral zero theorem states if x − a is a factor of polynomial P(x), then a must be a factor of the constant term in P(x). In this problem the constant term is −24; therefore, the possible a-values are as follows:

     
    ±1, ±2, ±3, ±4, ±6, ±8, ±12, ±24
