    Method 1

    Graph  . Determine the x-intercepts of the graph.

     
    This is the graph of the function y equals begin square root 12 subtract 2x squared end square root subtract x subtract 3. The x intercepts are indicated in red at approximately (-2.41, 0) and (0.41, 0).

    x = −2.41 and x = 0.41

    Method 2

    Graph y1 = x + 3 and  . Determine the x-value of the points of intersection.

     
    This shows the graphs of two functions. The first function is y one equals x plus 3. The second function is y two equals begin square root 12 subtract 2 times x squared end square root. The points of intersection are indicated in red at approximately (-2.41, 0.59) and (0.41, 3.41).

    x = −2.41 and x = 0.41
