  1. Questions 5.b. and 5.c. on page 73

      1. This shows the graphs of two functions. The first is y equals the square root of x. The second is the transformed function y equals 3 times begin square root x plus 1 end square root. The original graph passes through the key points (0, 0), (1, 1), (4, 2), and (9, 3). These points map to the key points (-1, 0), (0, 3), (3, 6), and (8, 9) on the transformed graph.

        The domain is {x|x ≥ −1, x ∈ R}. The range is {y|y ≥ 0, y ∈ R}.
      2. This shows the graphs of two functions. The first is y equals the square root of x. The second is the transformed function y equals negative begin square root x minus 2 end square root. The original graph passes through the key points (0, 0), (1, 1), (4, 2), and (9, 3). These points map to the key points (2, 0), (3, -1), (6, -2), and (11, -3). on the transformed graph.

        The domain is {x|x ≥ 2, x ∈ R}. The range is {y|y ≤ 0, y ∈ R}.
