Module 6: Building a Support System in Your Job

The Health Provider and the Agency

Look back at the list of what makes a good job from the first week.

Items that are mostly determined by the employing agency:

  • Salary
  • Benefits
  • Security
  • Opportunity to advance
  • Work Hours
  • Working Conditions

Items somewhat determined by the agency and somewhat by the health worker:

  • Supervisors - supportive, fair
  • Allows balance of work and home life
  • Flexibility
  • Variety

Items mostly determined by the worker:

  • Co-workers - good supportive relationships
  • Work feels meaningful
  • Opportunity to help others
  • Fits your personality
  • Is interesting, absorbing

“Reflect

Think about:

  • Has your attitude about the things you can control, changed since you began this course?
  • Given what you have learned over the past few weeks what changes could your agency implement to make it easier for you, to do your job well and feel good about it?

Your Healthy Healers Workplace Plan will ask you to consider both topics.
