Module 6: Building a Support System in Your Job

Good Communications - A Key to Building Trust

How we communicate and how we hear and interpret the communication of others is in part based on our personality. There are several web-based quizzes that classify personality types and preferences for communication. Recall that in the course Orientation, you took the True Colors personality quiz.

True Colors suggests our personalities are a combination of four basic types:

  • Blue - Compassionate, affectionate, dislikes conflict, sensitive, needs praise, a caretaker, cooperative, strong sense of spirituality.  A “people person”.

  • Gold - Responsible, organized, practical, punctual, uncomfortable with change, strong sense of duty, prepared, well organized, values tradition, respects policies, conscientious.

  • Orange - Energetic, spontaneous, learn by doing, can be impatient with routine and uncomfortable with structure, impulsive, playful, likes challenges.

  • Green - Conceptual, logical, analytical, values knowledge, stressed by repetitive tasks, can be uncomfortable with strong emotions, problem solver.
