Module 5: Balance: Past and Present

Introduction

In the past few weeks we have looked at things that may cause stress in our work and some ways to deal with those stressors. This week we will look at past stress, both our shared historical past and our personal past, as well as ongoing ways to deal with the stress when we get “triggered.”

The Reverend Anna Frank (Old Minto), is a member of the Elders Council at ANTHC and a former health aide and mental health counselor with Tanana Chiefs Conference. Rev. Anna Frank retired in 2011 after more than 20 years as the Episcopal Diocese of Alaska’s Archdeacon of the Interior. She is, “the first successfully ordained indigenous woman in the world.”

  2. Identify my family's and/or culture's historical strengths.
  3. Understand how personal history of trauma can impact our work.
  4. Learn and practice three strategies to manage stress-related triggers.
