A Simple Prayer of Thanks

I am grateful for my family and friends,
a job to earn my keep, and the health to do it,
and opportunities and the lessons I've learned.
Let me never lose sight of the simple blessings
that form the fabric and foundation of my life,
I am blessed, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Gratitude Exercise
For at least one week, practice the five steps below. Decide how you want to record your reflections: in a spiral notebook, on your computer, or on a note pad; whatever is easiest for you.
1. Write three new things you are grateful for each day.
2. Describe a positive experience you had over the past 24 hours.
3. Exercise for 10 minutes a day (this could be walking to and from work).
4. Sit quietly focusing on your breath going in and out for 2 minutes, or meditate.
5. Write one quick email or note first thing in the morning, thanking or praising a coworker or someone you work with.

At the end of the week, describe your experience with your learning partner. Was it hard? Easy? What steps did you like or not like? Are you planning to continue any of the steps after the week is over? We will discuss this exercise and the role gratitude plays in our life during our class together.
