Module 2: Job Stress

Retraining the Brain

Doug Modig is a Tsimshian Elder and long time community healer. In this video, he responds to Dr. Chamberlain’s presentation

Doug talks about how we can have hope, because our brains are plastic and changeable. He reminds us,  "It's never too late to retrain your brain."  We can change the way we deal with situations, it takes work, but it’s possible!

What does this phrase mean to you? "It's never too late, to retrain your brain".  Think of an example from your life you would like to share during our class together, later this week.

Earlier you described how stress feels in your body. Those sensations are signals that you might be responding from your downstairs brain or limbic system. Those signals are telling you to stop and take a few calming breaths.

There are several excellent resources on how the brain works that maybe useful to you, as well as your clients as parents and caregivers. See the Amazing Brain Series for more information.
