Module 2: Job Stress

How Other Tribal Health Providers Feel Stress

You are not alone! Other tribal health providers consistently identify these conditions as stressful:

  • Always being on call (not having real time off).
  • Living in a small community—knowing everyone.
  • Working with difficult clients.
  • Lack of support.
  • Working with difficult co-workers.

Most people feel stress in one or more ways:

  • Tight muscles (hands, jaw, pelvis, shoulders, neck).
  • Fast or shallow breathing.
  • Pounding heart.
  • Temperature: hot face, flushing, sweaty hands.
  • Stomach or head ache.
  • Fuzzy brain.
