The Surreal Totem
Before
you begin this assignment, you may want to do a brief research into the
purpose of totems in the aboriginal culture to help you better
understand the intent of this assignment.
Concept: Making a subjective sculpture from 'ready-mades'
Procedure:
1. Obtain 20 clear plastic drinking glasses.
2.
Collect and arrange various objects and selected articles within the
glasses: photographic images, designs, industrial gadgets, electronic
parts, miniature toys, dolls, clock parts, charts...etc. Manipulate the
objects prior to assembly. the interior spaces of the glasses may also
be altered using paint, melted wax, candle smoke, excelsior, colored
pastels, packing materials. Make some interior spaces visibly clear,
others obscure.
3. Glue the glasses rim to rim to form a totem.
4. Mount vertically on base, as a nameplate and title.
5. Take three photos from different viewpoints and attach to this assignment to submit.
